Erdogan says Sudanese brothers want Turkey involved in peace efforts

Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that Sudanese brothers had asked for Turkey to take part in efforts to achieve peace in Sudan, adding that Ankara would do everything it could to help end the conflict.

Erdogan, speaking in Ankara, emphasised that Turkey viewed stability in Sudan as essential for the wider region, and that his government was ready to support diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions. He noted that Turkey had longstanding ties with Sudan and would continue to work with international partners to encourage dialogue and prevent further suffering.

The conflict began in 2023 during a power struggle between the SAF and the Rapid Support Forces. Since then, international actors have repeatedly called for a ceasefire, improved humanitarian access, and a political process that can restore calm and protect civilians.

Erdogan reaffirmed Turkey’s support for Sudan’s recognised authorities, and urged all parties to prioritise peace, open space for diplomacy, and commit to a long term settlement that can pave the way for lasting stability.
