Islamic State claims attack on Somali military base

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for an attack on a military base in Somalia’s Puntland region. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, involved 12 militants and two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices.

According to the Islamic State’s statement, the attack resulted in the deaths of approximately 22 Puntland military personnel and left numerous others injured.

Somali authorities have yet to confirm the details of the attack and the casualty figures.

Earlier reports from Somali security forces indicated that they had successfully repelled the attack, neutralizing nine suicide bombers.

Islamic State in Somalia has been steadily gaining strength in recent years, posing a growing security threat in the region.
