Kenyan police find two bodies in suspected cult church

Kenyan police discovered two bodies and rescued 57 individuals from a church in Migori County, western Kenya, according to an internal police report.

The discovery evokes memories of a tragic starvation cult incident from two years prior.

One body, a man wrapped in white robes, was found in a prayer room at St. Joseph Missions of Africa Church on Monday.

The 57 rescued individuals appeared weak and frail and were taken to a local hospital.

However, they reportedly resisted medical attention, instead singing religious songs. A police spokesperson did not immediately comment on the situation.

This incident brings to mind the 2023 discovery of over 400 bodies in the Shakahola forest, the victims of a doomsday cult led by Paul Mackenzie of the Good News International Church.

Mackenzie and his associates were charged with murder and terrorism-related offenses for allegedly instructing followers to starve themselves to death to reach heaven.

Mackenzie has denied the charges, and the legal proceedings are ongoing.
