Kenya’s Ruto speaks with Kiir on Machar’s arrest, sends envoy

Kenyan President William Ruto announced Thursday he will dispatch a special envoy to South Sudan.

This follows a phone conversation with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir regarding the arrest of his political rival.

Ruto stated he also consulted with the leaders of Uganda and Ethiopia on the developing situation.

The move aims to de-escalate tensions and provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

Ruto shared the update on X, emphasizing the need for regional engagement in addressing the delicate political climate in South Sudan.
