Limited aid starts entering Gaza through Egypt crossing

The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza has opened for vital aid to reach Palestinians facing dire shortages under an Israeli siege.

Hamas confirmed that 20 aid trucks carrying medicine and food entered Gaza from Egypt, with over 200 trucks positioned at the crossing for days.

Martin Griffiths, the UN’s emergency relief coordinator, hailed the delivery as the start of sustained aid efforts.

Israel’s blockade and indiscriminate airstrikes targeting civilian areas, and amounting to international war crimes has left Gaza in a very desperate position.

Although the crossing’s opening is seen as significant, experts stress the need for more aid.

Many in Gaza are surviving on one meal daily, while hospitals lack crucial supplies and fuel for generators amid widespread power outages.

Cindy McCain of the World Food Programme emphasized the dire situation, calling for more aid to avert further suffering.

Hamas acknowledged that the incoming aid, though crucial, would not fully alleviate Gaza’s medical crisis.
