Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has approved sweeping salary increases of up to 80% for members of the armed forces.
The wage boost comes as the nation faces persistent security threats, including regional banditry, ransom kidnappings, and violent insurgencies.
Starting September 1, junior personnel will receive the maximum 80% raise, while high-ranking generals will see a 30% increase.
This new compensation structure expands the military’s annual wage bill from 660 billion naira to 924 billion naira overall.
Tinubu emphasized that prioritizing troop welfare and modernizing equipment remain essential to confronting persistent armed threats across the country.
