Northern Morocco schools halt classes due to heavy rains

Schools across northern Morocco suspended classes Monday due to severe weather, officials announced.

The Moroccan Education Ministry cited warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology.

Heavy thunderstorms and torrential rains prompted the closures. The Regional Directorate of National Education in Tangier issued the suspension for all public and private institutions.

Abdelmalek Essaadi University in Tetouan also halted classes, planning to resume Tuesday. Officials urged students and staff to prioritize safety.

The General Directorate of Meteorology issued warnings of significant rainfall. Expected rainfall could reach 90 millimeters in northern cities.

Tangier, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, and Al-Hoceima face the highest risk.

Other cities, including M’diq, Ouazzane, Taza, and Taounate, anticipate substantial rainfall.
