Over 3 million Sudanese children face malnutrition: UN

In a somber announcement on Friday, UNICEF warned that 3.2 million children in Sudan under the age of five will face acute malnutrition in 2025.

This figure highlights the ongoing humanitarian disaster that continues to devastate the country.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric revealed that of these children, more than 700,000 are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition.

The situation has become one of the world’s largest child displacement crises.

As conflict continues to ravage Sudan, over 5 million children have been displaced, many fleeing with only the clothes on their backs.

Dujarric described these families as enduring unimaginable hardships as they struggle to survive amidst escalating violence.

Sudanese mothers, some of whom walk for weeks in search of food and shelter, are bearing the weight of this crisis.

Dujarric stressed that these families and communities are facing devastating impacts from the ongoing conflict.

The UN has warned that continued barriers to food and essential services will likely lead to further fatalities.

Since April 2023, fighting between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan-controlled SAF and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) group has claimed over 20,000 lives and displaced more than 14 million people.

As the humanitarian crisis deepens, the international community faces mounting pressure to provide urgent support to Sudan’s most vulnerable populations.
