With the ongoing fierce battles in Sudan over the past month, the displacement continues as people flee from the bombardments and destruction.
However, the displaced face dire conditions in many areas they seek refuge in, as reported by the aid group Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
Susanna Borges from the relief organization revealed that some of the displaced people in Chad, for example, “have not received food for five weeks.” She sadly stated, “People are feeding their children insects and herbs and tree leaves.”
She also emphasized that this exacerbates the health crisis, while humanitarian workers are facing numerous cases of “malaria, diarrhea, and malnutrition.”
Half of Sudan’s population, totaling 48 million people, is in need of humanitarian assistance, including six million on the brink of famine. The war has resulted in the death of at least 5,000 people and the displacement of 3.6 million within the country, in addition to the flight of another one million people to neighboring countries.
Chad is among the prominent neighbors that have received a large number of Sudanese refugees, with over 400,000 people seeking refuge there, followed by Egypt (287,000) and South Sudan (248,000).
