With funding from the Global Fund, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan has delivered the first shipment of tuberculosis (TB) and HIV medications to the Federal Ministry of Health.
The delivery took place in the presence of the Disease Control and Medical Supplies Management Directorate at the National Medical Supplies Fund warehouses in the states of the Red Sea, Nile, and Gezira during the last week of August.
The distribution will immediately continue to cover the healthcare needs of patients across the entire country.
With a total weight of 33 tons, these medications will address Sudan’s immediate requirements, enabling the continuation of HIV treatment for 11,000 individuals and the treatment of 2,000 TB cases.
These treatments will be provided through public hospitals and primary health centers that are still operational.
Arrangements are underway to receive the second shipment in the coming months to fulfill the remaining needs of the national TB and HIV programs in the country until mid-2024.
Distribution of the medications has already begun, along with the rest of the Global Fund-supported treatments and grants, in the states of Kordofan and Darfur through medical supplies, following the distribution plan of the Disease Control Directorate. Distribution to the remaining states of Sudan is also currently underway.
