Sudanese alliance slams al-Burhan’s decision to sever ties with UAE

The Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasees) has strongly condemned General al-Burhan controlled-government’s recent decision to sever diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), calling it an “invalid” and “hostile” move that does not reflect the views of the Sudanese people.

In a statement, the alliance criticized the “Security and Defense Council’s” declaration, which labeled the UAE as an “aggressor state.”

Tasees described the decision as lacking both political and moral legitimacy, arguing that it failed to acknowledge the long-standing, mutually respectful relations between Sudan and the UAE.

Tasees accused Sudanese regime, which it says is controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood, of using the diplomatic break to escalate regional tensions and deflect attention from the country’s internal struggles.

The alliance also highlighted Sudan’s unsuccessful legal challenge against the UAE at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which has been dismissed by the international community.

The group raised concerns about the potential consequences for Sudanese citizens residing in the UAE, warning that the decision could jeopardize their residency and lead to the revocation of passports. Tasees urged Sudanese citizens both domestically and abroad to ignore what it called “reckless and hostile actions” and to continue fostering ties with nations that have supported Sudan in times of crisis.

Despite the official stance, the UAE has maintained its diplomatic presence in Sudan, a move that Tasees attributes to its respect for the Sudanese people rather than the current government. The alliance mocked the actions of Sudan’s military leaders, pointing to contradictions in their positions—most notably, the “so-called Minister of Defense” declaring war, while General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan refrained from addressing the UAE in a recent video message.

Tasees concluded by affirming that the Sudanese people would not be misled by such moves, reiterating its commitment to pushing for revolutionary change and the establishment of a free and democratic state.
