Sudanese doctor killed, two others injured in assault in West Kordofan

The Preliminary Committee of the Sudanese Doctors’ Union announced the killing of a medical professional and the injury of two others in Al-Fulah, the capital of West Kordofan State.

According to a statement published by the Preliminary Committee on Wednesday, the incident occurred after an ambulance in West Kordofan State’s Al-Fula locality was subjected to intense gunfire by unknown individuals travelling in a private vehicle on Monday. This led to the injury of a group of doctors.

The deceased, Dr. Safaa Al-Daleel, was the Health Emergency and Epidemic Control Department Director in West Kordofan.

The statement strongly condemned the direct and consecutive targeting of doctors and medical personnel and their vehicles that are clearly marked, as they were unmistakably identified as medical professionals, which constitutes a complete war crime.

The Committee called on international organizations operating in the country to provide the necessary protection for doctors to continue their essential tasks in treating patients safely and to establish secure pathways for them to access service locations.
