Sudan’s army, RSF clashes leave three dead

Renewed violence has erupted in Sudan’s North Darfur state, as the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) clashed with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the state capital, El-Fasher.

According to a statement released on Monday by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the fighting involved airstrikes by the SAF on RSF positions within the city, resulting in casualties.

The IOM reported at least three deaths and twelve injuries. No official statement from the Sudanese army has been received regarding the incident.

This recent outbreak of violence adds to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which began in April 2023.

The power struggle between the military, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis.

UN figures indicate that over 13,900 people have been killed and more than eight million displaced due to the conflict.

Several attempts to establish a ceasefire, brokered by Saudi Arabia and the United States, have proven unsuccessful in halting the violence.
