UN needs $2.6 billion to support 18.1 million people in Sudan

The United Nations stated that humanitarian organizations in Sudan need 2.6 billion US dollars to support 18.1 million people through various multi-sectoral humanitarian services by the end of the year.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan, the humanitarian response plan has received only 676.9 million US dollars until the end of August.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs noted that the delivery of humanitarian aid faces restrictions due to “lack of security, looting, and bureaucratic hurdles.” The UN office mentioned that “125 humanitarian partners were able to reach approximately 3.6 million people with life-saving assistance from April to August.”

“The protection of civilians remains a major concern, with reports of increased sexual and gender-based violence, as well as reports of family separation and child recruitment.”

Additionally, it added: “Access to health services continues to face obstacles due to the ongoing conflict. Health facilities lack sufficient staff and supplies and barely function in some areas.” The UN office stated.
