Algeria seeks milling wheat suppliers

Algeria’s state grains agency, OAIC, has issued an international tender to procure milling wheat, European traders reported on Sunday.

While the tender nominally seeks 50,000 metric tons, Algeria is known to typically purchase significantly larger volumes.

Offers for the wheat, sourced from various origins including Europe, must be submitted by Tuesday, December 24th, with validity extending until Wednesday, December 25th.

Shipments are expected to occur in phases between February and March 2025.

This latest tender comes amidst a shift in Algeria’s wheat import patterns.

Traditionally a major importer of French wheat, Algeria has increasingly diversified its suppliers, with Black Sea region exporters gaining a larger market share.

This trend has been further amplified by apparent diplomatic tensions between Algeria and France, leading to a noticeable decline in French wheat imports in recent Algerian tenders.

OAIC, while not disclosing specific details of its tenders, has consistently emphasized its commitment to fair and equitable treatment for all suppliers.
