Morocco saw a record-breaking 17.4 million tourists in 2024, marking a 20% increase compared to the previous year, according to the country’s tourism ministry. Nearly half of these visitors were Moroccans residing abroad.
Tourism, which contributes about 7% to Morocco’s GDP, remains a vital source of employment and foreign currency for the North African nation.
The 2024 arrivals surpassed the government’s targets by two years, with projections now aiming for 26 million visitors by 2030. This milestone aligns with Morocco’s plans to co-host the FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
Efforts to boost tourism include opening new air routes to key markets, promoting lesser-known destinations within the country, and encouraging hotel renovations to enhance visitor experiences.
From January to November, tourism revenue reached a record 104 billion dirhams, up 7.2%, as reported by Morocco’s foreign exchange regulator.
