Morocco, Yemen sign seven agreements to boost cooperation

In a significant diplomatic step, Morocco and Yemen signed seven agreements on Friday, aiming to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

The agreements were finalized during the sixth session of the Joint Committee, held in Rabat.

The session was co-chaired by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Yemeni Foreign Minister Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani, as part of a diplomatic visit by the Yemeni delegation.

Among the agreements was a landmark deal for the mutual recognition of driver’s licenses. Another key arrangement focused on vocational training, aimed at boosting skills in both countries.

Further collaborations were outlined in higher education and scientific research, with a program established for the 2025-2027 period.

Both nations also signed memorandums of understanding on water resource management, infrastructure development, meteorology, and climate science.

The two countries emphasized the importance of these agreements in addressing the needs of their people.

Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the progress of their bilateral relations, reaffirming their commitment to stronger ties.

Diplomatic relations between Morocco and Yemen date back to 1978 when Yemen opened its embassy in Rabat.

The partnership was solidified further with the establishment of Morocco’s embassy in Sanaa in 1984.

Following the meeting, Foreign Minister Bourita reiterated Morocco’s support for Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council as the legitimate government.

He stressed the importance of a political solution to the ongoing conflict in Yemen, which has persisted since 2014.

As Yemen experiences a period of relative peace since 2022, Morocco remains committed to supporting the country in overcoming its humanitarian challenges.
