Turkish Airlines and South African Airways sign codeshare deal

Turkish Airlines and South African Airways announced a codeshare agreement set to begin March 1, 2026.

The deal was formalised at a Geneva ceremony, attended by Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Bolat and South African Airways CEO John Lamola.

Bolat said the partnership will expand travel options, fostering cultural, tourism, and economic ties between Türkiye and South Africa.

Lamola described the agreement as a strategic move, aiming to provide passengers with reliable and competitive air travel services.

He praised Turkish Airlines as a globally respected carrier, highlighting the shared commitment to strengthen Africa-Türkiye connectivity.

The codeshare arrangement is expected to deepen commercial collaboration while offering passengers more seamless travel alternatives between the two countries.

Under the agreement, South African Airways will codeshare flights on routes including Johannesburg-Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Windhoek, Harare, Victoria Falls, and Mauritius.

Turkish Airlines will codeshare on Istanbul-Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, as well as key European routes to Frankfurt, Paris, and London.

Both carriers emphasised that the partnership represents more than commercial interests, aiming to enhance tourism, trade, and sustainable economic growth.

Bolat concluded that the cooperation reflects the deep-rooted friendship between the nations and their shared vision for a connected future.
