An extraordinary Arab League summit on the Gaza crisis, initially scheduled for next week, has been postponed to March 4, Egypt confirmed on Tuesday.
The Egyptian foreign ministry stated that the decision followed consultations with Arab League members to ensure “substantive and logistical preparations” for the high-level gathering.
The meeting was originally called in response to a controversial proposal by former U.S. President Donald Trump, suggesting control over war-torn Gaza be transferred while relocating its Palestinian population elsewhere.
The proposal, which reportedly includes relocating Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan, has ignited a wave of condemnation across the Arab world, uniting regional leaders against the plan.
In a parallel diplomatic effort, Saudi Arabia is set to host key Arab leaders on Thursday, including those from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, to discuss an alternative vision for Gaza’s reconstruction.
The Saudi-led initiative seeks to ensure that Palestinians remain on their land while addressing the humanitarian and structural devastation caused by ongoing conflicts.
Trump’s proposal has not only deepened tensions but also sparked an unusual display of unity among Arab nations determined to counter external interference in Palestinian affairs.
As regional leaders prepare for crucial negotiations, the postponed Arab League summit is expected to shape the next phase of diplomatic maneuvering over Gaza’s future.
