Massive keloid removed in Uganda during Turkish medical camp

A Ugandan man had a 5-kilogram keloid mass removed during a health event organized by the Friends of All Africa Association (TADD).

The event was held in cooperation with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and Uganda’s Ministry of Health.

A medical team from Turkey provided free examinations and surgeries over 11 days, treating hundreds of Ugandans.

The team included doctors, nurses, anaesthesia technicians, and civil society members.

The group of 18 specialists examined approximately 1,500 people and performed nearly 100 surgeries.

One of the most notable cases was that of 39-year-old Muhammed Ramazan, who had lived with the massive keloid for years.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dadaci, a plastic surgery expert, described the keloid as the largest he had ever seen.

The growth extended from the patient’s neck and affected the area behind his ears.

Keloids occur when the body produces excessive tissue after a wound heals.

Such cases are more common in individuals of African descent.

The surgery improved Ramazan’s quality of life.

TADD’s representative, Cuneyd Tiryaki, emphasized the broader impact on the patient’s health, family, and social integration.
