Turkish official discusses counterterrorism in Burkina Faso

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhanettin Duran visited Burkina Faso on May 13-14 to enhance cooperation between the two nations.

The visit focused on counterterrorism efforts, regional stability, and broadening bilateral relations, Turkish Foreign Ministry sources said.

Duran met Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo and Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traore to discuss pressing security issues.

Prime Minister Ouedraogo highlighted a shared determination to diversify and deepen diplomatic and economic ties between the countries.

Foreign Minister Traore praised Turkey as a steadfast ally during turbulent times, citing its role in combating terrorism in Burkina Faso.

Traore described Turkey as a strategic partner and expressed the desire to strengthen cooperation between Ouagadougou and Ankara.

Two memoranda of understanding were signed to formalize closer collaboration between the foreign ministries of both nations.

It was agreed that political consultations covering all facets of bilateral relations will be held in Ankara later this year.

The visit underscores Turkey’s growing engagement in the Sahel region amid ongoing security challenges.

Through dialogue and partnership, both countries aim to advance peace and stability while fostering stronger diplomatic bonds.
