Armed man prompts US agents to open fire near Trump’s club

A shooting occurred Sunday at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach while former President Donald Trump was present.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident but stated Mr. Trump was unharmed. The intent behind the shooting remains unclear.

Steven Cheung, communications director for Trump’s campaign, assured the public that “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity.” Further details were not available.

Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, confirmed a “person of interest” had been detained in connection with the shooting.

The U.S. Secret Service announced they were investigating “a protective incident” involving Mr. Trump. It occurred shortly before 2 p.m., and additional details are expected.

Sheriff William D. Snyder of Martin County reported that deputies detained a vehicle driver wanted in connection with the incident. The suspect was apprehended while driving on Interstate 95, leading to the closure of the highway.

Vice President Kamala Harris and the White House issued statements expressing relief that former President Trump was safe following the incident.
