Social media users have circulated an audio recording, allegedly of Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif, in which he warns of a worsening humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza and sharply criticizes Hamas leaders involved in ceasefire talks with Israel.
In the purported recording, al-Sharif cautions that the humanitarian situation in southern Gaza could deteriorate just as it has in the north, blaming “those negotiating on behalf of Gaza’s residents” for the suffering. He urges Hamas leaders to end the war and ease the population’s hardship — even if it means releasing all Israeli captives or surrendering themselves.
He also warns against claims of “steadfastness” or “victory,” saying northern Gaza has effectively been lost and that Gaza City now faces imminent occupation.
Early Monday, the Israeli military confirmed killing five journalists in an airstrike on a tent outside al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, among them Anas al-Sharif.
An Israeli army spokesperson alleged that al-Sharif was “posing as a journalist” while serving as a Hamas cell leader involved in advanced rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and forces. The military further claimed intelligence documents from Gaza — including rosters of names, militant training lists, and payroll records — showed al-Sharif was a Hamas operative.
