Druze leaders back unity as Damascus expands security control

Syrian government and Jaramana leaders have forged a crucial agreement to bolster security within the Damascus countryside city. This accord, announced late Thursday, will see residents hand over their weapons to the state authorities. The Damascus Countryside Governorate confirmed the development on its official Telegram channel, signaling a move towards stability.

The agreement follows a meeting between Mohammad Ali Amer, head of the Eastern Ghouta region, and key religious and social figures in Jaramana. These discussions aimed to strengthen security, ensure the return of normal life, and safeguard the dignity and safety of Jaramana’s people under state institutions. A key component involves expanding the presence of Ministry of Interior security forces throughout the city.

Furthermore, the agreement mandates the immediate handover of heavy weaponry from residents. All arms, including any unlicensed personal weapons, will be restricted solely to state institutions. To further protect the city, Ministry of Defense checkpoints will be strategically deployed around Jaramana’s perimeter. This comprehensive approach seeks to restore order and reinforce state control.

Separately, Druze religious leaders and elders in the Suwayda Governorate voiced their unwavering commitment to a unified Syria. In a statement released Thursday, they firmly rejected any notions of division or separatism within the nation. These influential figures also called for an enhanced role for the Ministry of Interior and judicial police within the Suwayda Governorate itself, drawing from the local population.

The Druze leaders emphasized that securing the vital Suwayda–Damascus road is an undeniable responsibility of the Syrian state. Their statement further echoed a broader demand for the complete restoration of security and stability across all Syrian territories. These affirmations highlight the Druze community’s desire for a secure and united future within Syria’s borders.
