Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Saturday cautioned against rising regional tensions in separate phone calls with his Lebanese and Iranian counterparts.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty’s conversation with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji focused on the “alarming escalation in southern Lebanon.”
He warned that further instability could exacerbate the region’s already fragile situation.
The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanon’s state institutions and stability.
He rejected any actions that could compromise Lebanon’s security and called for a full Israeli withdrawal in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
In his call with Iran’s Abbas Araghchi, Abdelatty discussed the rapidly evolving regional crisis, stressing the need to contain escalation in Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen.
He urged restraint, warning that further hostilities could deepen the region’s instability.
Abdelatty also addressed security in the Red Sea, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation.
He highlighted the economic strain on Egypt due to falling Suez Canal revenues, attributing losses to ongoing regional tensions.
Reiterating Egypt’s stance, he called for an immediate de-escalation and a reinforced ceasefire in Gaza to prevent further violence.
