Egypt firmly opposed the forced displacement of Palestinians on Sunday, following a controversial proposal by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump suggested relocating Gaza’s population to Egypt and Jordan, describing the region as a “demolition site” after prolonged conflict.
Cairo’s foreign ministry issued a strong statement emphasizing Egypt’s unwavering support for Palestinians’ right to remain on their land.
The ministry rejected all measures that infringe on Palestinian rights, including settlements, annexations, or forced displacement.
The ministry’s statement warned against temporary or permanent uprooting of Palestinians, asserting it undermines justice and stability in the region.
Trump’s remarks ignited outrage, as he suggested Egypt and Jordan absorb displaced populations amid ongoing tensions from the 2023 Israel-Hamas conflict.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi strongly condemned the proposal, labeling such displacement a “red line” that threatens Egypt’s national security.
Sisi reiterated that removing Palestinians from their territories undermines their right to statehood and escalates regional instability.
Egypt and Jordan have repeatedly cautioned against plans that would forcibly alter Gaza or West Bank demographics.
Cairo has underscored the urgency of the two-state solution, advocating a peaceful resolution to the enduring Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
