The plane of former Apollo 8 astronaut William Anders crashed late Friday near Seattle in the US, according to media reports.
The older model aircraft, which is owned by Anders, was flying north to south when it went down into the waters off the San Juan Islands and sank, said FOX13 News.
The retired American astronaut, who took the iconic “Earthrise” photo in 1968, is missing after the crash.
Search and rescue operations are currently underway.
