Israel, Hamas agree on aid to Gaza in return for captive medical relief

In a collaborative effort with France, the Qatari Foreign Ministry announced a groundbreaking deal between Israel and Hamas as the humanitarian crisis worsens in the besieged Palestinian enclave.

The agreement aims to deliver medicine and humanitarian aid to the most affected areas in Gaza. In return, medication will be provided to Israeli captives held in the enclave.

Majed al-Ansari, the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson, revealed that the shipment of medication and aid is scheduled to depart from Doha on Wednesday.

The route involves transit through Egypt before reaching Gaza.

Al-Ansari emphasized ongoing efforts with regional and international partners, particularly in humanitarian and medical evacuation aspects. These initiatives align with Qatar’s broader commitment to ending the conflict in Gaza, as stated in the foreign ministry’s published release.

In a related development, the United States signals its readiness to increase humanitarian aid for Gaza.

John Kirby, the national security spokesperson for the Biden administration, acknowledged Israel’s shift to lower-intensity operations in Gaza.

Despite this, Israel’s ongoing assault continues to claim civilian lives and disrupt access to crucial assistance.

UN officials recently expressed concern about an arbitrary inspections regime hindering aid deliveries to Gaza.

Israeli authorities, without clear explanations, have rejected aid deliveries, impeding efforts to provide much-needed support to the people in Gaza.

The situation underscores the challenges faced by humanitarian organizations striving to alleviate the suffering in the conflict-ridden region.
