A series of explosions at a Syrian army site near Aleppo has injured at least four people, according to Syrian state media.
The explosions occurred early Monday near the town of al-Eis, south of Aleppo.
The cause was not immediately clear.
Emergency teams responded to the site as officials urged residents to stay away from the area.
Aleppo explosions injure four
Syrian state news agency SANA reported that the explosions occurred at a weapons depot at an army site.
Faisal Mohammad Ali, head of civil defence operations in Aleppo, told SANA that emergency teams evacuated four injured people.
Further explosions followed the initial blast.
Al Jazeera reported from Aleppo that the explosions could be heard several kilometres away.
Ambulances and fire engines were also seen heading towards the site.
Authorities restrict access to site
Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib urged residents to remain indoors temporarily.
He said hospitals, ambulances and emergency teams were on full alert.
Meanwhile, Aleppo’s Internal Security Command closed roads leading to the site.
Officials said the measure was intended to protect civilians while emergency teams worked in the area.
Cause of explosions remains unclear
Authorities had not announced the cause of the explosions at the time of publication.
Therefore, it remains unclear whether the incident was accidental or caused by another factor.
A resident in Aleppo’s Hamdaniyeh neighbourhood told AFP that a large explosion could be heard from the area.
The resident also reported seeing flames in the distance.
Syria sees recent depot explosions
The Aleppo explosions follow other deadly incidents at military sites in Syria.
On September 19, an explosion of unknown origin killed 11 people at a military site in Deir Az Zor.
Earlier in September, an explosion at a Ministry of Defence weapons depot in Idlib province killed 14 people and injured 11.
Authorities did not immediately establish a connection between those incidents and the latest explosions near Aleppo.
