According to an official statement from the cabinet, the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) has issued approval for the construction of the fourth and concluding 1200 megawatt unit at the Dabaa nuclear power plant.
During June 2022, Rosatom, Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy corporation, announced that it had secured authorization from an Egyptian regulatory body to commence the construction of Egypt’s inaugural nuclear facility, comprising four units, each boasting a capacity of 1200 MW.
“The safety of the fourth unit of the Dabaa nuclear power generation plant was verified, and no risks were proven to threaten humans, the environment and properties”, ENRRA said in the statement.
Authorization for the commencement of the initial unit was provided in June 2022, followed by the second unit in October 2022, and subsequently the third unit in March 2023, as stated.
In 2017, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt and President Vladimir Putin of Russia entered into an agreement to initiate the construction of the Dabaa nuclear power plant, as confirmed during a meeting in Cairo.
