Twenty-five lives were tragically lost in Niger state, Nigeria, as a truck lost control and collided on a busy expressway. The federal road safety agency’s report highlighted that the speeding truck, traveling from Sokoto state to Lagos, was overloaded with passengers and cargo.
Over 200 passengers survived the accident but sustained severe injuries. Despite the incident occurring on Tuesday night, authorities confirmed it on Wednesday.
President Bola Tinubu termed the accident a “distressing tragedy” and directed emergency response units to ensure the injured survivors receive urgent medical attention.
Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger state also ordered a ban on the use of trucks and other haulage vehicles for passenger transportation in response to the incident.
