The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) on Saturday unveiled a presidential council and appointed a prime minister as part of its self-declared civilian “peace government,” the bloc’s spokesperson said.
Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commander of the Rapid Support Forces, was named president of the council, with Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North leader Abdelaziz Adam al-Hilu as vice president, spokesman Alaa al-Din Naqd said in a statement.
The council will also include al-Tahir Hajar of the Sudan Liberation Forces Gathering, Hamed Hamdi Nuri, Mohamed Youssef al-Mustafa, Abdullah Abbas and Khaldi Fathi Salem.
Eight newly appointed regional governors will sit on the council, representing the presidency in their territories:
- Al-Hadi Idris — Darfur
- Jagoud Mukwar — Nuba Mountains
- Joseph Tuka — New Fung
- Saleh Abdullah — Central Region
- Mabrouk Mubarak Selim — East
- Abu al-Qasim al-Rashid — Northern Sudan
- Ahmed Faris al-Nour — Khartoum
- Hamad Mohamed Hamed — Kordofan
Former sovereign council member Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’aishi was tapped as prime minister.
TASIS announced its 31-member leadership body earlier in July, naming Dagalo as chair and al-Hilu as deputy. The alliance emerged after the RSF, SPLM–N, factions of the Sudan Liberation Movement and other political and tribal actors signed a political charter and draft transitional constitution.
