Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have agreed to strengthen cross-border disease surveillance across the Greater Virunga Landscape to tackle health threats that cross national borders.
Health officials from both countries met in Mbarara to coordinate efforts against potential epidemics.
They stressed that faster information sharing, laboratory testing and joint outbreak investigations are essential to protecting communities in the region.
The agreement comes amid continued concerns over cross-border disease transmission, particularly following past Ebola outbreaks that affected communities along the shared frontier.
Under the new framework, Uganda and DR Congo aim to establish a stronger early-warning system to detect and contain outbreaks before they spread into wider regional crises.
