South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo have commenced discussions aimed at strengthening their strategic defense capabilities. The DRC’s defense minister began a visit to South Africa on Monday, a move announced by the South African government.  This visit unfolds against a backdrop of escalating conflict in the DRC’s mineral-rich eastern region.  South African troops, part of a Southern African Development Community (SADC) mission, have suffered significant losses in the area.    South Africa’s defense ministry stated that the visit seeks to further enhance the long-standing bilateral defense relations between the two nations.  Congolese Defence Minister Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita is engaging in talks with his South African counterpart, Angie Motshekga. Their discussions will center on crucial areas of defense cooperation and the reinforcement of strategic defense capabilities. The ministry emphasized that this partnership is vital for promoting regional peace, security, and stability.
