Italian energy giant Eni has announced the launch of the hull for its second Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility, set to be deployed off the coast of the Republic of Congo.
The new facility will have a capacity of 2.4 million tons per annum (MTPA), significantly boosting the country’s LNG production.
When combined with the existing Tango FLNG facility, which began operations in December 2023, the total liquefaction capacity of the Congo LNG project will reach 3 MTPA by the end of 2025.
This development marks a significant milestone for both Eni and the Republic of Congo, as it further solidifies the country’s position as an emerging LNG exporter.
The first LNG cargo from the country was exported to Italy in February 2024.
Eni’s investment in the Congo LNG project underscores the growing importance of Africa as a source of natural gas and the potential for further development of the region’s energy resources.
