Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi vowed unwavering support on Wednesday for the full implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Speaking at an event marking Egypt’s Police Day, Sisi emphasized Egypt’s dedication to mediating the truce alongside Qatar and the United States.
He described the ceasefire, initiated on January 19, as a testament to Egypt’s relentless diplomatic efforts.
“We will exert every effort to ensure this agreement halts the bloodshed of our Palestinian brothers and restores Gaza’s livability,” Sisi declared.
He also stressed Egypt’s firm rejection of displacing Gaza’s residents under the dire circumstances.
The ceasefire agreement, currently in its first six-week phase, aims to end violence, facilitate prisoner exchanges, and lay groundwork for a permanent truce.
The Israeli assault on Gaza, which began in October 2023, has resulted in over 47,200 deaths, including women and children, and left 111,160 injured.
The devastating conflict has led to the destruction of homes and critical infrastructure, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Over 11,000 individuals remain missing amid the rubble.
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Israel faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice.
Sisi’s remarks underscore Egypt’s enduring role in seeking stability and justice in the region while ensuring the Palestinian cause remains at the forefront of global attention.
