U.S. President Joe Biden met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday to discuss ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Sudan.
This meeting marks a significant diplomatic engagement, with Biden emphasizing the importance of addressing the war in Gaza.
During the meeting, Biden acknowledged the devastating Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, which have resulted in over 350 fatalities.
He stated that he is actively working to de-escalate tensions in the region.
Despite the ongoing civil war in Sudan, Biden did not mention the conflict during his opening remarks.
Recently, he called for an end to the violence between al Burhan-controlled SAF and Rapid Support Forces, accused of human rights violations.
The White House previously indicated that both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris would discuss humanitarian aid and ceasefire needs with Sheikh Mohamed in Sudan.
Separately, Harris’s meeting with the Emirati leader is historic, being the first visit by a president of the UAE to Washington.
The UAE aims to highlight economic and technological cooperation while strengthening its strategic relationship with the U.S.
