French President Emmanuel Macron announced a high-level summit with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II to address the escalating crisis in Gaza.
The summit will be held Monday in Cairo, following Macron’s arrival in the Egyptian capital on Sunday evening. His visit comes amid growing international concern over Israel’s military operations in Gaza and rising regional tensions.
Israel has intensified its offensive in Gaza since the breakdown of a short-lived truce with Hamas, aiming to pressure the group into releasing hostages. Simultaneously, Israeli strikes have expanded into Lebanon and Syria, deepening fears of a broader regional conflict.
Macron shared the summit plans on X, stating the meeting was organized in response to the worsening emergency in Gaza. He emphasized the urgency of coordinated diplomatic action with key regional actors.
Following the summit, Macron is scheduled to visit the port city of El-Arish on Tuesday, located near the Gaza border. There, he will meet with humanitarian and security personnel engaged in aid operations.
El-Arish has become a critical hub for international humanitarian assistance flowing into Gaza. Macron’s visit signals France’s continued push for a ceasefire and a political resolution to the conflict.
The summit reflects renewed international engagement in the Middle East crisis, as world leaders seek to ease the humanitarian toll and restore stability in the region.
