Second group of Syrians departs Egypt for Syria through Nuweiba

In a poignant journey homeward, 63 Syrians boarded a ferry departing Egypt’s Nuweiba Port for Syria.

The Red Sea Ports Authority confirmed the departure, marking the second group of returnees since the exodus began.

Travel arrangements included bus transportation from Cairo residences to Nuweiba, facilitated by a Jordanian company overseeing logistics.

“All inspection and passport processes were completed seamlessly at the port,” noted the authority in an official statement.

The ferry is destined for Jordan’s Aqaba Port, where passengers will proceed overland to the Jaber Border Crossing into Syria.

The first group of 40 Syrians made a similar return on December 29, reflecting a growing trend among displaced nationals.

Egypt currently hosts over 792,000 registered refugees from 62 nations, according to the UNHCR, though unofficial figures exceed 9 million.

Among these, an estimated 1.5 million Syrians have sought refuge in Egypt, escaping years of conflict in their homeland.

Syria’s political landscape shifted dramatically last month when Damascus fell to anti-regime forces after swift military advances.

Bashar Assad, who ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia following the collapse of Baath Party control.
