Türkiye will deepen cooperation with Nigeria across industry, trade, investment and production, Trade Minister Omer Bolat said after high-level talks in Ankara.
Bolat spoke following a meeting with Nigeria’s industry minister, held under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official visit.
He said discussions focused on expanding economic ties, sketching a future shaped by joint production, flowing capital and diversified trade corridors.
The two sides signed a declaration establishing a Joint Economic and Trade Committee to anchor cooperation within stronger institutional frameworks.
They also agreed on a memorandum covering halal quality infrastructure, aiming to open new commercial pathways for businesses in both countries.
Bolat said the steps would create fresh opportunities, supporting a shared ambition to lift bilateral trade towards a five-billion-dollar target.
Tinubu pledged deeper cooperation on security and commerce, citing a mutual determination to curb instability and stimulate sustainable growth.
Nine agreements were signed, spanning military training, education, media, diaspora policy, women’s affairs and diplomatic capacity building.
Trade reached nearly seven hundred million dollars in early 2025, making Nigeria Türkiye’s largest partner in sub-Saharan Africa when energy is included.
Turkish firms operate widely in Nigeria, investing about four hundred million dollars and undertaking projects nearing three billion dollars in value.
Defence ties have also strengthened, with agreements and equipment purchases reinforcing a strategic partnership rooted in security cooperation.
The evolving relationship reflects a long arc of diplomacy, blending economic ambition with a steady pursuit of trust and shared prosperity.
